The Artist
Artist's Statement
Rather paint the flying spirit of the bird than its feathers.
— Robert Henri
Throughout my life, I have been drawn to the philosophy and aesthetics of the East, particularly Zen Buddhism. My goal is to simplify form and go straight to heart of things. This minimalist approach may require hundreds of attempts for each completed work for each stroke stands alone and is unalterable. My painting style includes 'splashing ink' and 'flying white' techniques. Some art pieces are based on classic Chinese or Japanese master works, others are inspired by nature, and some created with no subject in mind.
Marie Taylor

Her poetry has been published in several literary magazines including Cicada, Wildfire, and CA Poets Quarterly. A play, The Last Waltz, was staged in 1995. Her unpublished creative work includes two books of essays, a book of poetry and children's stories. She holds an MA in English Literature from Youngstown University in Ohio.
When the monkey mind is silent, awareness of the Now arises. Energy, without direction or agenda, seeks expression. White and still, the rice paper receives the masculine brush. The black ink gives form to the energy of that instant. The interplay of positive and negative areas, black on white, invites the viewer to explore the energy expressed and bring his or her own intuition to the experience.
